OVERVIEW
Spend 2 nights in Nairobi; one day to acclimatize and the next day to start experiencing this Circle of Life tour. These couple of days in Nairobi are also meant to physically and mentally prepare you for your first stay at Ithumba, where you will have exclusive use of the Eco Lodge.
By staying at Ithumba Camp Eco Lodge, you will directly be contributing to Kenya Wildlife Service in support of conservation in Tsavo. Ithumba Camp is located in Tsavo East, and you will stay here for 2 nights. This is a rustic self-catering camp off the beaten track.
Spend 2 luxurious nights at Finch Hattons Camp located in Tsavo West.
Move to Chyulu Hills where you will spend your last 2 nights at the fabulous Ol Donyo Lodge – a Relais & Chateaux and National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World Member.
This arrival day is meant for you to rest & rejuvenate, in order to prepare you for your onward safari. The hotel you will be staying at is strategically located within one of Nairobi’s famous outdoor malls. Spend the day relaxing, and you can dine at one of the food court outlets.
No meals included on this day. Overnight and breakfast at Trademark Hotel.
Today’s morning is at leisure. Shop for food & drinks supplies at the nearby stores within the mall, to prepare for Days 3 & 4 at your self-catering ecolodge. Lunch within the area. Later in the afternoon, transfer to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to meet with your foster elephant and other elephants. This is a 1-hour private prebooked visit for small groups, so you have more time to interact freely with the elephants and their keepers.
Lunch in Gigiri/Muthaiga area. Overnight and breakfast at Trademark Hotel.
After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Syokimau, Nairobi’s rail terminus for your train departing at 8a.m. You are booked on First Class and your arrival time into Kibwezi Station is at 10.15 a.m. Your vehicle packed with your supplies will meet you at Kibwezi Station and transfer you to Ithumba Camp, an hour away from the station. Settle in quickly, and get ready for the 11a.m. elephants mud bath viewing. Meet with the experienced Chef & Camp staff to discuss your meal plans for these next couple of days. Later in the afternoon, drive around Tiva Tiver and the Yatta Plateau looking for wild elephant herds, giraffe striding across the plains, hyrax peeking through the rocks and dik-dik scampering through the bush. Return to the Camp for your evening visit to the elephant orphans’ stockades.

Early morning visit to the elephant orphans’ stockades to interact with them, before they go out into the wild. Watch them integrate with wild elephants. Maybe this morning, you can go out for a walk along the Tiva River, guided by an armed Kenya Wildlife Service ranger. Back in time for the 11a.m. elephants mud bath viewing. Rest of the day at leisure to relax, or explore this northern part of Tsavo with a picnic lunch. Return to Camp in time to welcome back the elephant orphans into their stockades for the night.

After breakfast, check-out latest by 9.30 a.m. and drive to Tsavo West with a short game drive done en route to Camp. Arrive in time to freshen up and lunch at the luxurious Finch Hattons Tented Camp. Afternoon at leisure to indulge in either a spa treatment (extra cost) or a relaxing swim or just enjoy watching the view from your elevated deck of your luxury tented suite. In the evening hours, it’s time to go on a game drive ending with sundowners. Return to Camp for a quick refreshing shower, pre-dinner drinks and then dinner.

Think about how Denys Finch Hatton lived back in the day. Today is your day to relive one of Denys Finch Hatton’s day. How would he have spent it? You choose how and what you want to do today – be it a bush breakfast, a nature walk, an excursion to Shetani lava flow, a visit to Mzima Springs, hike to Oldonyo Larami volcano or just go on game drives.

After breakfast, drive approximately 3 hours towards Chyulu Hills National Park, stopping for any interesting scenery or game viewing en route. Arrive at Ol Donyo Lodge. Located on the private 275,000-acre Mbirikani Group Ranch between Tsavo East and Amboseli National Parks, the Lodge is situated right next to Chyulu Hills National Park. Spend this time before lunch discussing the activities planned for the next couple of days as well as receive your DSLR camera + lenses for complimentary use, these next couple of days. After lunch, visit the hide where you can spend as much time as you want watching the resident elephants at the waterhole, or you could enjoy watching the distant wildlife from your high-quality binoculars in your room or cool off in your own private plunge pool. Go on an evening game drive with sundowners. A possible dinner venue tonight could be the wine cellar. Tonight, you can sleep in your own private open air ‘star bed’ located on the upper level, listening to the sounds of hyenas and lions moving around, while you sleep.

This morning, you can horse ride against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, followed by a bush breakfast and then on to a short game drive before returning to the Lodge. Lunch followed by a dip in your plunge pool, or a quick peek to see what’s coming at the hide, or a siesta – take it as fast or slow as you like. Late afternoon, get ready to hike through lava tube caves exploring new and old tubes. The caves serve as a refuge for injured birds or animals, and also some predators have been known to bring inside their prey to feed on. Come out of the caves in time for sundowners and then head back to the Lodge. Another possible dinner venue will be al fresco near the main swimming pool. You can choose to sleep in your ‘star bed’ again, or inside your room.

Breakfast and check-out early, in time to catch your flight departing for Nairobi at 8.30 a.m. Arrive Nairobi’s Wilson Airport at approximately 10 a.m. Met and transferred to Trademark Hotel where you have a day room at your disposal. Rest of the day to relax, shop for souvenirs within the mall or just wander around the area, until it’s time to transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your flight back home.
