OVERVIEW

Start this exciting safari with a night’s stay in Nairobi. This day is meant for you to acclimatize, and just relax before your safari the next day.

The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille in Laikipa will be your home for the next 4 nights. There are only 4 spectacular villas with discreet butler service, in one of the highest points in this stunning region. The wildlife in this area consists of elephant, leopard, cheetah, hyena, zebra, greater kudu and wild dog – there are at least 6 packs of wild dog in the area around the Lodge. Special Offer of ‘Pay for 3 nights, Stay for 4 nights’ is included in this cost.

The next 6 nights will be spent in the Masai Mara.

Stay at Rekero Camp for the first 3 nights. This 9-tent Camp is located inside Masai Mara National Game Reserve, less than 150 meters away from the annual wildebeest migration river crossing point.

Naboisho Camp is where you will spend your last 3 nights. This 9-tent Camp is located in Naboisho Conservancy, where activities such as night game drives and walking safaris can be done.

Day 01: Arrival Nairobi and acclimatize

Arrive into Nairobi and relax. Allow your body to get used to the new time zone and the weather. The hotel your area is located in is the famous Karen area, named after Karen Blixen of the famed Out of Africa book/movie. Dinner at one of the famous restaurants within the area.

Day 02: Fly to scenic Loisaba

After breakfast, take a flight out of Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Loisaba airstrip. Met on arrival and transferred to the Lodge by road, approximately 1 ½ hours. Upon arrival, you are free to discuss your activity options for the next few days. The Lodge is located in a private & protected 40,000-acre conservation area which is over three times the size of Manhattan. All guests staying at the Lodge will have an exclusive experience, without seeing another car from the time they arrive till the time they depart.

Day 04: Home away from home

Your safari here is not your conventional type of safari. This is to ease you slowly into the safari way of living. No need for early morning starts, and not many game drives done in vehicles. Instead, you will go on walking safaris, camel trekking, quad biking, mountain biking, get to see real community projects & culture, not to mention unlimited spa treatments.

Day 05: Get energized.

This is your last day here in Laikipia. Spend the day as you please. Swim in the “horizon” swimming pool, go on a guided walk, or a game drive, or a horse ride, go quad or mountain biking, or just do whatever you feel like doing.

Day 06: Relaxed & refreshed and on to the next safari

Relaxed and refreshed, you are now ready and well on your way for the next part of your safari. Depart early in the morning after breakfast, drive 1 ½ hours to Loisaba airstrip in time to connect with your flight to Ol Kiombo airstrip in Masai Mara National Game Reserve.
On arrival, you will be met by your guide from Rekero Camp, who will drive you to Camp stopping along the way to watch any wildlife you may encounter on the way. Settle into your tent and then head over for lunch. The main lounge tent and vast deck offer the perfect view to spot wildlife drinking from the Talek river. Relax in the afternoon, and after afternoon tea & cake, head out for a late afternoon game drive. Return to Camp in the evening, freshen up and dinner.

Day 07: Visits to The Maa Trust and Mara Predator Conservation Program

Awaken for an early morning game drive, then return to Camp for breakfast. Rest and relax for the rest of the morning. Lunch.
Then in the afternoon, drive to the border of Mara Naboisho Conservancy where The Maa Trust is located. Learn about the various community projects such as youth empowerment programmes, vocational training, beekeeping & honey production, brick making, FGM education, healthcare, water & sanitation and their famed beadwork project.
Maa Beadwork has so far employed up to 579 local women who create beautiful beaded items that guests can buy on site, or at either Rekero or Naboisho Camp shops. This project was created in 2013, empowering women to have financial independence, and in 2019 earned US$ 34000.
After this visit, drive over to Mara Predator Conservation Program, located next door. One of their key partners is Kenya Wildlife Trust who are focused on creating sustainable predator populations in Kenya since 2007. Get an insight into the challenges and successes of their conservation & community projects, community drives within the conservancy and engaging schools with local wildlife clubs.
Drive back to Camp for dinner and overnight.

Start with an early morning game drive with a picnic bush breakfast. During this time, predators are most active. Return to Camp mid-morning to rest, from where you can watch wildlife coming to the river, at the main lounge & deck. Lunch, then afternoon tea or coffee with freshly baked cake, and an afternoon game drive. Get back in time for a quick shower and dinner.

Day 09: On to Naboisho Conservancy
Day 09: On to Naboisho Conservancy

Say goodbye to the Rekero Camp team after breakfast, and drive north over the Masai Mara National Game Reserve boundary, and into the exclusive 200 square kms Naboisho Conservancy. Upon arrival at the Camp, meet Naboisho Camp’s managers who will swiftly welcome you and help you get settled. Lunch under the shade of the trees, and then relax by the swimming pool. Shortly after, drive 45-minutes to Mbitin Primary School, where you will learn about the local culture. You will be taken on a guided walk in the town or village where you will meet the residents and this will help you gain valuable insight into the local lives around here.
The school visit will include your donation to the community. School visits cannot be guaranteed as term dates fluctuate, or schools are closed over the weekend, public holidays or if exams are taking place. Visits should offer minimal disruption to school life so that learning takes priority. For this reason, school visits are organized during lunch hour or recess time, offering you a chance to interact with students and teachers.
Return back to Camp in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Visits to Ol Chorro Conservancy and Mara Elephant Project

This is mostly a full day visit due to the distance from Camp, so you will depart immediately after breakfast with picnic lunches. Drive to the base of Kilileoni Hill within the Mara Ol Chorro Conservancy where a small rhino sanctuary is located. Here, you will have the opportunity to walk among the 3 resident white rhinos, as well as meet with one of the rhino rangers to learn more about these rhinos and why they need our protection.
From here, drive to Mara Elephant Project located in Lemek Conservancy, in Mara North Conservancy. Elephants are under threat from human-wildlife conflict, poaching and diminishing space. Mara Elephant Project employs local Maasai rangers that conduct daily anti-poaching patrols, respond rapidly to conflict and shutdown illegal habitat destruction activities. There will be a core staff member to do a presentation, as well as give a tour of the headquarters to see up close, bushmeat snares, spears & arrows collected from the field, an elephant skull and elephant collars.
Drive back to Camp with an evening/night game drive en route to Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Walking Safari
Day 11: Walking Safari

Start your day with a morning walking safari after breakfast. You decide on the pace as well as the distance. Walks are usually done either in the morning or evening hours, when it’s not too hot. Come back and dip into the pool before lunch. Afternoon cake and tea or coffee and then depart for your evening game drive with sundowners. Return to Camp in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Return to Nairobi

On this last day, with bags packed, depart after breakfast for Ol Seki airstrip 45-minutes away. Pick up your flight back to Nairobi. On arrival, met and transferred to Hemingways Nairobi, where you have a room booked for the day. Rest, relax and freshen up. Then transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international flight back home.
