OVERVIEW
This safari itinerary showcases the best of the Laikipia region in Kenya – a beautiful landscape
full of valleys, hills, ravines with the presence of Kenya’s highest mountain, Mt Kenya. Home to
large predators like lion, leopard and cheetah, the region also hosts many rare and endangered
species, as well as extraordinary birdlife.
This itinerary allows you to participate in activities like anti-poaching activities, empowering
women & local communities, schools & water projects, adopting an elephant orphan,
reafforestation, as well as taking in the beauty and solitude of the landscape.
Today it’s all about settling in and then visiting & feeding the Rothschild giraffe.
Later in the day, you will spend time with elephant orphans before retiring to your boutique hotel, Ololo Lodge, on the boundaries of the Nairobi National Park for dinner and overnight.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa is where you will be spending the next 2 nights. This is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees. Enjoy a horse ride in a 600-acre predator-free enclosure which also has the last 2 remaining northern white rhinos in the world.
Nighttime brings the romance of a night game drive in the Conservancy, trying to spot genet & serval cats, porcupines, anteaters and if you are very lucky, lions, and leopards. Full board and overnight at Kicheche Laikipia
Spend the day in the Conservancy, which has some of the highest predator densities in the country. First a guided bush walk at 6.30 am learning about game trails, spoor identification, birds, insects and smaller mammals. 3 hours later a leisurely bush breakfast by the river. Later relax under the shade of a tree, or in the cool interior of your room.
An afternoon drive in the Conservancy incorporating a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Finally a cocktail by the bonfire before dinner and overnight in a warm, toasty bed. Full board and overnight at Kicheche Laikipia
Borana Conservancy with its amazing views of Mt Kenya is the next stop. Horseriding adventures are part of its DNA, and while galloping over the plains, you can scatter seedballs which help in reforestation, and the eventual greening of the planet. Day & night game drives in open-sided 4WD vehicles, and guided walks are also part of the adventure here. Full board and overnight at Borana Lodge.
Full day in Borana where you can immerse yourself in conservation activities like rhino tracking, joining deployments for anti-poaching activities, as well as visiting schools, a traditional Maasai village and the mobile clinic.
Adventurous activities you can also partake in include mountain biking, walking the canopy walkway at Ngare Ndare Forest, swimming in the crystal clear pools in the forest or visiting the largest permaculture project in East Africa. Full board and overnight at Borana Lodge.
For the next 2 nights, we will visit the Segera Conservancy – 50,000 acres of wild Kenyan savannah. With a very light footprint and magnificent views of the mountain, the lodge is a wonderful retreat to enjoy the next 2 nights. The Conservancy has opened migratory animal corridors by dropping fences, and now the Conservancy is filled with lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Every year there are new generators of prey and predator and more elephants passing through the land. Full board and overnight at Segera Retreat.
Some of the activities available here in addition to game drives and guided walks, are visiting a women’s beading cooperative, visiting the Waterbank school with its unique water harvesting design, as well as the Laikipia Unity Football Academy, collecting wild honey from the beekeeping initiatives, taking part in a foot patrol with the anti-poaching unit, meeting with East Africa’s first female ranger team, a visit to a Samburu manyatta, as well as the local market or taking an art tour. Full board and overnight at Segera Retreat.
After breakfast, transfer to Nanyuki airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi. Met on arrival and transferred to your boutique hotel on the edge of the Nairobi National Park for your last overnight in Kenya. Full board and overnight at Ololo Lodge.
Transfer to the airport where you will board your departure flight, carrying with you precious memories of the wildlife, and peoples of Kenya.
