OVERVIEW
We traverse the country, following in the footsteps of elephants. Our journey begins in Nairobi, at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, nursery unit, visiting young orphaned elephants in the capacity of foster parents. This is a unique opportunity to watch how they interact with their keepers, who act as their surrogate mothers. Next we follow them to Galdessa, located in Tsavo East National Park where the slightly older orphans are being reintegrated into the wild at the Voi Reintegration Unit. Next comes Amboseli National Park where we get to see these magnificent creatures in the wild, as intended by nature. Our last stop is Samburu to visit Save The Elephants, where research on elephant behaviour is done, as well as elephant collaring and sophisticated tracking techniques are in use to minimize conflict with communities and ensure a future for these wise and compassionate creatures.
Today, you will settle into your hotel after being received at the airport. Your hotel is located in a bustling mall with world class restaurants, or informal dining outlets, depending on your mood.

The morning is spent shopping for supplies for your self catering adventure scheduled for the next day. The budget provision is US$ 100 per person and you will be assisted in your shopping. Lunch is taken at one of the outlets in the mall, and at 5 pm you will visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, nursery unit to spend time with your elephant orphan. Watch the orphans as they come running in from the Park where they spend the day with their keepers and head straight for their milk bottles. They then go into their stockades to prepare for the night, and this is your opportunity to spend time with them, either going into the stockade or from outside. At six pm, we have to leave our orphans and return to the hotel.

Travel by 1st class train from Nairobi to Voi, a small town on the highway to Mombasa. At Voi, you will be met by your driver/guide, driving to the largest game park in Kenya, the wild and primordial Tsavo East National Park. Although the northern part of the park is not accessible to the public, there are still huge tracts of unexplored wilderness for you to enjoy. Your self catering accommodation for the next two nights is located on the Galana River, which is the lifeline of the park. Chef, waiters and room attendants are on hand to ensure you have a memorable stay here. At 5 pm head out to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Voi reintegration unit where the elephants from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, nursery unit in Nairobi, are brought once they attain the age of 3 years. Here they are reintegrated into the wild, and you, as foster parents, are some of the privileged few allowed to visit the orphans. Promptly at seven pm, you will return to Camp. Enjoy a home cooked meal on the deck, looking out over the Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world.
