OVERVIEW
This itinerary visits Kenya’s beautiful northern areas, offering unsurpassed views of the craggy peaks of Mt Kenya, Mt Ololokwe (the sacred mountain of the Samburu), the Matthews Range, Karisia Hills and the exceptional landscapes in between.
Arrival into Nairobi, a vibrant, cosmopolitan city where the day is at leisure to explore the metropolis. Your hotel is located in the open air Village Market Mall where you will have access to many restaurants, a food court, and an exclusive shopping experience. Overnight at the Tribe Hotel.
A short flight to Loisaba, followed by a 90-minute drive, will bring you to the exclusive and luxurious Ol Lentille Lodge where you will be accommodated in private villas, each inspired by the trees and plants of Laikipia.
Enjoy the activities at Ol Lentille, which include walks guided by the Maasai and Samburu warriors, camel safari to the river, quad biking and hiking.
The highlight of the day is a visit to the Singing Wells, found only in this part of Kenya. Wells are dug deep into the lugga (dry river bed) and water is transported to the surface by a human chain. The wells are owned by different clans and each clan has a specific song or chant to call their livestock to drink.
A drive on the Great North Road will bring you to Sera Conservancy – a success story in community led rhino conservation. The dry riverbed in front of the Saruni Rhino Camp attracts all manner of wildlife, making it the perfect spot to while away a morning or afternoon.
The focus of your stay here is tracking rhino on foot, a thrilling exercise made possible by the skill and patience of the local guides. Enjoy starlit bush dinners and walking safaris during your stay at the Camp.
Driving further north, we come to Kalama Conservancy, your home for the next 2 nights. With game drives done here and in the adjoining Samburu Reserve, you will have plenty of opportunity to encounter the legendary elephant herds that cross this terrain. Your overnight here is at the romantic Saruni Samburu Lodge.
Visit the local community, or trek up the sacred mountain Ololokwe, indulging in bush meals out on the conservancy. Opt for a guided walk, a hike up Thumb Rock or a visit to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary – a community based rescue centre for orphaned elephants and other game. Back to Saruni Samburu for the night.
Morning flight back to Nairobi, where you have a dayroom to relax and freshen up, till 1800 hours. Transfer to the airport for you departure flight.
