The lodge is situated on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpement inSouthern Kenya, and overlooks the stunning expanse of theGreat Rift Valley. It is surrounded by 140,000 acres of Shompole Group Ranch, which serves as a dispersal area for wildlife. Nearby are the 2 unique Rift Valley lakes – Magadi and Natron ,LakeNatronbeing one of the only flamingo breeding sites inAfrica.

Seeking to imitate the natural surroundings, the open architecture of the rooms blends white quartz stone, polished fig wood, pale thatch and smooth white walls, with water as the central theme.  Each room has a cool pool, with streams of water running through the rooms, ideal for cooling oneself in this hot sun-baked climate. There are 6 rooms in total at the lodge.

The lodge has partnered with the local Maasai, who are involved in every aspect of managing the lodge, from the day to day running of the property, to any decisions that have to be made.

  • One can also visit the pre-historic site of Olorgesaille.

Plains game is abundant in the area, and aardwolf, bat eared fox, serval and civet cat, leopard and striped hyena are often spotted on night drives, with genet cats frequenting the lodge. Elephant, lion, buffalo and cheetah are also found on the plains around the lodge.

Shompole is a 3 hour drive fromNairobiby 4WD vehicle, or a 30 minute charter flight fromNairobi.

A minimum stay of 2 nights is required.
